Prof Ebeling AO named Fellow of Australian Academy of Health and Medical Sciences

Professor Peter Ebeling, AO, has been made a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Health and Medical Sciences (AAHMS).

The AAHMS aims to advance research throughout Australia in health and medicine. The organisation’s goal is to ensure the application of this research benefits all Australians.

Each year, the Fellowship elects the best and brightest minds in Australia to join the Academy in recognition of their outstanding achievements and exceptional, ongoing contributions in the medical and health sciences field.

This year’s new Fellows include 15 women and 16 men from various fields and specialties nationwide. This distinguished list was announced at an official event in Melbourne on 13 October, and Professor Ebeling joined a group of only 448 Fellows in Australia.

Professor Peter Ebeling’s bio.

Prof. Ebeling serves as Chair for Healthy Bones Australia; is a Board member of the International Osteoporosis Foundation (IOF); and is current Past-President of the American Society of Bone and Mineral Research, the first non-north American to be elected.

Prof. Ebeling is also Past-President of the Endocrine Society of Australia (ESA) and the Australian and New Zealand Bone and Mineral Society (ANZBMS). Prof Ebeling sat on the Editorial Board of Osteoporosis International (OI) and was previously Editor of Clinical Endocrinology (Oxf) and Editor-in-Chief of Bone Reports and JBMR Plus.

He was a member of the NHMRC Academy from 2009 – 2014 and the NHMRC Research Committee from 2015 – 2018. He was the inaugural Director of the Australian Institute of Musculoskeletal Science (AIMSS). In 2015, was made an Officer of the General Division of the Order of Australia (AO) for distinguished service in the field of bone health.

Prof. Ebeling has more than 475 peer-reviewed publications in the New England Journal of Medicine (NEJM), Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America (PNAS USA), Journal of Clinical Investigation, and Science. Prof Ebeling also mentors and teaches medical students and supervises several Research Higher Degree students and advanced physician trainees in Endocrinology.
