WORLD OSTEOPOROSIS DAY
OCTOBER 20
For World Osteoporosis Day 2009, Australian men were being asked "How strong are your bones?" Osteoporosis Australia alerted men around the country that osteoporosis is a disease that can affect them too! Current statistics tell us 1 in 3 men over 60 will have a fracture due to osteoporosis.
Osteoporosis Australia announced the release of a new consumer brochure targeted at men. This important new resource outlines risk factors for the disease and steps for prevention. A new 'Men and Osteoporosis' resource for GPs was also released, and distributed to GPs nationally.
Osteoporosis Australia thanks our spokespeople on the day: Robert de Castella & Guy Leech (pictured left), Professor Peter Ebeling, Professor Philip Sambrook, Associate Professor John Gullotta, and Doctor Emma Duncan.
