Healthy Bones Week 2010 ( August 1 - 7)

Osteoporosis Australia thanks all schools that participated in activities during the awareness week.
The week highlighted the importance of calcium in the development and maintenance of healthy bones.
Congratulations to all schools that entered the online schools competition this year. The winning entry was created by a Year 3 class at Winthrop Primary School, WA.

Clinical Update Day
Osteoporosis Australia co-hosted a Clinical Update Day in Sydney on June 4th with the Australian and New Zealand Bone and Mineral Society. The event was attended by GPs and health professionals, and the program covered latest issues about osteoporosis. OA would like to thank the Chairs and the expert speakers at the event.
Bone Health Parliamentary Breakfast 2010
'Bone Health - Why it's important for Australians' was the main focus this year at the Parliamentary Breakfast event which was held on March 17.
Keynote speakers including Prof. Ego Seeman, Prof. Peter Ebeling and Dr Kerin Fielding discussed the various issues that affect Bone Health in Australia today.

World Osteoporosis Day 2009
For World Osteoporosis Day 2009, Australian men were asked "How strong are your bones?" Osteoporosis Australia alerted men around the country that osteoporosis is a disease that can affect them too! Current statistics tell us 1 in 3 men over 60 will have a fracture due to osteoporosis.
Osteoporosis Australia announced the release of a new consumer brochure targeted at men. This important new resource outlines risk factors for the disease and steps for prevention.
A new 'Men and Osteoporosis' resource for GPs was also released and distributed to GPs nationally.

Blackmores Sydney Running Festival 2009

National Healthy Bones Week 2009
‘Are You Feeding Your Bones?’ was the theme of this year’s National Healthy Bones Week, August 2-9.
This awareness week encourages people of all ages to ensure they consume the recommended dietary intake of calcium for strong bones.
There were some exciting activities and great prizes to be won. (Proudly supported by Rebel Sport)

Osteoporosis Australia would like to thank Dr. Irene Froyland (Vice-chairman of Osteoporosis WA), for the opening address. We would also like to thank the expert speakers at the event.

OA profiled at Business Event
The Australia Israeli Chamber of Commerce (AICC) hosted a business lunch in Sydney on June 11. Osteoporosis Australia was kindly invited to be the exclusive charity featured at this business event. The Hon Julia Gillard MP Deputy Prime Minister was the keynote speaker. The event was a great opportunity to promote bone health and the activities of Osteoporosis Australia to a broad business audience. Osteoporosis Australia hosted a stand at the event and distributed awareness information and bone pins to guests.

Osteoporosis & Men Parliamentary Breakfast 2009

Osteoporosis Australian hosted its annual Parliamentary Breakfast on Wednesday March 11 2009. The event was attended by a range of federal politicians including the Hon Justine Eliott, Minister for Ageing. Representatives from the federal Department of Health and Osteoporosis ACT also attended.
The theme this year was Osteoporosis & Men. The event informed politicians about the prevalence of the disease, the associated costs to the healthcare system and the opportunities for preventing osteoporosis and subsequent fractures.
Osteoporosis Australia would like to thank the speakers at the breakfast – Dr John Howe, Prof Caryl Nowson and Prof Peter Ebeling (pictured above).
